Day 12 – Hutchinson Island Marriott Resort and Marina

We have arrived at the Hutchinson Island Marriott Resort and Marina in Stuart, FL for a week with our daughters Alison and Laura and their spouses and children, our grandchildren. As we were preparing to leave Vero Beach City Marina this morning, Alison called with the terrible news that Delta had cancelled their flight. Because of bad weather two days ago, they had no pilots for their plane in Minneapolis. They weren’t sure what would happen, but it was certain that they would not arrive as planned in the early afternoon. Laura would be driving from their home in Florida, so they would surely be arriving today, but their plans called for an evening arrival. Alison was going to call Laura to see if they could get to the resort before 5:00 pm, the latest check-in time for the day. She said that we should also continue with our plans and if necessary we could do the check-in for everyone, since we would likely arrive first. So here we are. Their suite of rooms is right on the beach, facing the ocean. Here is the view.

It is good that we did arrive on schedule, because Laura was unable to arrive before 5:00 pm. We got there by about 4:00 pm, and we took care of the check-in for them, except the formal paperwork that will wait until tomorrow. Lyn and I greeted Laura, Rob and Zack when they arrived around 17:30, and helped them carry in their luggage and beach toys (including surf boards). Later, Grandma and Grandpa gave Zack a tour of Kite while Laura and Rob shopped for food. When they returned with their groceries, we sent Zack to the resort with them and we returned to Kite for the evening.

By midday today, Alison and Jason had worked out their alternate plans. They will arrive in Orlando late tonight, staying in hotel near the airport, and then driving their rental car to Hutchinson Island in the morning tomorrow. We are expecting that by noon tomorrow we will all be together

Yesterday, our last day in Vero Beach, we needed a few groceries from Publix and informed Ringle of our plans to go shopping. They wanted to come along to pick up a few essentials, too. We took a dinghy ride and waited for the bus, which got us to the bus stop near Publix by 11:30. After picking up a few essentials at ABC Liquors we were hungry for lunch. Knowing that it is not wise to grocery shop at mealtime, we thought we should eat first and grocery shop afterwards. We had all enjoyed lunch at Kelley’s Pub two days earlier, and thought it would be good to try it again. It was! We all ordered different items this time, and were very pleased with our choices again. On full stomachs we made short work of our grocery shopping and then took an Uber ride back to the marina, followed by a dinghy ride back to our sailboats.
